Richards named lacrosse assistant at Notheast

Jarrod Richards will leave the Lynn Tech lacrosse program to become an assistant coach at Northeast Regional High School.

Richards, 27, was an assistant coach on his father Jay’s staff at Tech in the 2010 season. Jay Richards was the original founder of the Tech program and returned to Tech this season after spending four seasons as head coach at Fenwick, where Jarrod also served as an assistant.

“This year I’ve decided to coach at Northeast because I also teach there,” said Richards, who is a mathematics teacher at the Wakefield vocational school. “I’ve coached for my entire career with my father, so it’s going to be interesting. My father gave me the encouragement to take the Northeast job. I’ll be working with [head coach] Neil Valeriani, whom I known since I was 7 or 8 years old when he was coaching hockey at Northeast and my father was coaching hockey at Tech.”

Richards was the head golf coach at Northeast for four seasons but the program was disbanded last year due to budget cuts. He is also a site coordinator and an assistant to the athletic director at Northeast.

Richards is well known to members and guests at the Gannon Golf Course. He has worked at the club for 16 years (“I started out washing golf carts,” he recalled) and is currently an assistant in the pro shop.
