Warren scores three TDs in Tech victory – Runner notches his first coaching win

Rich Warren Jr. scored three touchdowns as the Lynn Tech football team defeated Marian, 27-0, giving head coach James Runner III a victory in his first game at the helm of the Tigers’ program.

Warren caught two touchdown passes from quarterback Kennedy Gomes and had a 69-yard punt return for a score. Gomes also scrambled out of the pocket for a 50-yard touchdown in the non-league game that was played Saturday night at Bowditch Field in Framingham.

“It’s a wonderful start – I’m excited about my team and what we can do,” said Runner. “The players are starting to buy into our system.”

Tech linebackers Joel Devaney, Pedro Martinez, and Tem Timiochi led the shutout effort. Jason Grant had a quarterback sack while Leroy Davis and Rich Warren each had interceptions.

Runner said there are 40 players in the varsity program. The freshman team has 13 players.

Tech travels to Lexington Saturday for a 1 p.m. game against Minuteman Tech. The Tigers’ first home game at Manning Field is Oct. 2 versus Whittier Tech.
