Edward Ross, Jr.
Employed by Ross Family Greyhound Kennels
Edward J. Ross, Jr. died on April 8 at Morton-Plant Hospital, St. Petersburg, Florida, following a long battle with chronic obstructive lung disease.
Born and raised in Lynn, he was a graduate of St. Joseph’s Elementary School. The family moved to St. Petersburg, Florida and he graduated from St. Petersburg Junior High and St. Petersburg Junior College. For a time, he worked in the family business, the Ross Family Greyhound Kennels of New Hampshire and St. Petersburg. He then went to work for “American Tote” of Memphis, TN, for several years, and returned to St. Petersburg to work for GTE-Verizon for more than 10 years.
At a very young age, he became a motorcycle enthusiast and developed an innate curiosity about their construction and ride. He belonged to several bike clubs in Massachusetts, New Hampshire and Florida. He also developed a passion for Rock & Roll and Blues that continued throughout his long illness.
Mr. Ross has been battling chronic lung disease for more than 10 years which caused him to take a very early retirement. Under his hardened exterior image, there lay a kind, generous and benevolent gentleman who came forth increasingly with age. He was all about family and longed for his family of siblings to be most present in his life. All of his siblings as well as their families were in attendance when he passed.
He was the son of the late Edward J. Ross, Sr. and Mary Louise (Hannon) Ross; devoted brother to Robert W. Ross of St. Petersburg, Florida, Patricia A. Capossela and her husband, Alexander F. Sr., “Bob” Caposella, Mary Lou Ross and Cynthia M. Ross, all of Revere; cherished uncle of Alexander F. Capossela Jr. Lauren M. and Robert E. Caposella, all of Revere, Shanah L. Ross-DiMare of Revere, Jeremy E. Ross and his life-mate, Daniella Roy of Florida, Jessica S. Ross and her husband, Daniel Souza, all of Hampton, NH. He was the loving nephew of Anna Nelson and her late husband, Ry, of Marblehead, Dorothy Fernakess and her husband, William, of Hubbardston, MA and Charles Hannon and his wife, Linda, of North Reading. He also leaves a daughter, Courtney Ryan Ross of St. Petersburg, Florida.
Arrangements were by the Vertuccio & Smith Home for Funerals, 773 Broadway, (Route 107) Revere. Private burial will be held at a later date in St. Mary’s Cemetery of Lynn. In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to the Lungevity Foundation, 435 North LaSalle St., Chicago, Illinois, 60654.
