Joann Modica

Lynn resident

Joann “Jennie” (Fazio) Modica of Lynn, formerly of Medford, died on May 24.

The beloved wife of the late Giovani “John” Modica, she was the devoted mother of Paula Modica and Mary-Ellen Nille, both of Lynn, John Modica of California and David

Modica of Marblehead and cherished grandmother of David and Nikki Modica. Mrs Modica was one of six sisters and one brother and she is survived by many loving nieces and nephews.

Elias ‘Lin’ Torres

Lynn resident

Elias “Lin” Torres of Lynn died on May 25 after a brief illness.  He was 63 years old.

The husband of Rosa Torres, he was born and raised in Yabucoa, Puerto Rico and has been a resident of Lynn for more than 45 years.  “Lin” was always singing “Bachata” and was a very loving person, always happy.  “We all will miss you, Lin”.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children, Claribel Batista, Carlos Torres and Jose Torres; grandchildren: Claritza, Witico and Angel Batista, Natally, Alfred and Alex Torres; great granddaughter Yaralis Batista, all of Lynn; siblings, Rolando Castro, Delia Torres and Felipe Torres, all of Lynn, Ifrain Torres and Salvador Torres, both of Florida, and many nieces and nephews.  He was the brother of the late Carmelo Torres.

His funeral service will be held in the Goodrich Funeral Home, 128 Washington Street, Lynn today, Tuesday, at 11 a.m.  Burial will follow in Pine Grove Cemetery.

Steven Burt

Enjoyed fishing, the outdoors and his family

Steven C. Burt of Lynn died suddenly at home on May 24. He was 56 years old.

Mr. Burt enjoyed fishing, the outdoors, and most of all his family.

He was the beloved husband of Margaret M. “Peggy” (Dunn) Burt; loving son of the late Robert and Elsie Burt; loving father of Shawn Burt and his wife, Patricia, of Ohio, Matthew Burt and his wife, Katie, Christopher Burt and his wife, Amy, and Jonathan Burt, all of Lynn; loving brother of Robert Burt of Florida, Bonnie Kane of Maine and the late Penny Garrett and Debbie Morin; cherished grandfather of Bryce, Peighton, and Madison. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

Rita Robidoux

Lynn resident

Rita L. (Dancouse) Robidoux of Lynn died on May 24 at a local nursing home after a brief illness. She was 94 years old.

She was a member of the former St. Patrick’s Church and Ladies Sodality, St. Michael’s Church, St. Michael’s Retirees and St. Mary’s Church. She spent summers in Franklin with her family.

She was born in Manchester NH, the daughter of the late William and Sarah (Berthiuame) Dancause and the wife of the late Albert E. Robidoux with whom she shared 50 years of marriage. She is survived by two sons, Albert R. Robidoux of Peabody and William and his wife, Karen Robidoux, of Lynn. She was the sister of the late Marcel Dancause and Annette O’Keefe and her extended family: Carol Ouellette and her family from Salem and the late Bonnie and Blanche Alaburda, several nieces and nephews.

Funeral arrangements were by Nadworny Funeral Home, Lynn. Burial will take place today, May 31, in Holy Cross Cemetery, Franklin, NH.

John Francis Scott

US Postal Service retiree

John Francis Scott, formerly of Everett, Lynn, Westford, New York and most recently of Chelsea, died Thursday, February 3 at the Soldiers Home in Chelsea following a brief illness. He was 92 years old.

He was married to the late Mrs. Anne E. (Moulton) Scott who died in 1967. He was born in Boston on October 16, 1918, the son of the late John F. and Rose (O’Brien) Scott. He was raised in Everett, graduated from Everett High School with the class of 1935, served with the U.S. Army during World War II and was awarded the Purple Heart and the American Defense Service Medal. He was honorably discharged in October of 1945.

Following his service to his country, Mr. Scott worked for the U.S. Postal Service in East Boston until his retirement in 1978. He was a former communicant of St. Rose Church in Chelsea and a member of the American Legion.

He is survived by a brother, Zeke Scott, his step-children and their spouses, Joanne Smith of Westford and Francis and Geraldine Parsons of Lynn. He was the step-father-in-law to the late William E. Smith who died in 2006 and was the late husband of Joanne Smith of Westford, step-father of the late George Parsons of Lynn, who died in 2010, Elsie Duchette of Billerica, who died in 1995, Carol (Baer) Renteria of Florida, who died in 2006 and Geraldine Sullivan of Vermont, who died in 2009.

There are no visiting hours. A graveside service will be held today, Tuesday, May 31 at 1 p.m. at St. Joseph Cemetery on Lynn Street in Lynn. William Connolly

Of Wakefield, formerly of Everett

William J. Connolly of Wakefield, formerly of Everett, died on May 19.

He was the husband of Patricia (Joyce); father of Peggy Connolly of Newton, Susan Tuminelli and her husband, Frank, and Patricia Duffy and her husband, Brian, all of Wakefield and William J. Connolly, Jr. of Lynn; grandfather of Kaitlin and Samantha Tibbetts and Kelsey and Nicholas Tuminelli.

Raymond Forster

Member of American Legion, Bay State Postcard Club and United Airlines Retirement Association

Raymond R. Forster of Revere died on May 20. He was 78 years old.

A veteran of the Korean Conflict, he was a member of the American Legion, Bay State Postcard Club and the United Airlines Retirement Association.

He was the beloved husband of 51 yrs. of Wanda (Pavey); loving father of Raymond Jr. and his wife, Cynthia, of Andover, Daniel and his wife, Patricia, and Philip and his wife, Judith, all of Marblehead; cherished grandfather of Philip II, Justin, Jaclynn, Jessica, Mary Rose, Raymond III and Mia; dear brother of Ruth Hannigan of Milton, Mary of Revere, Eugenia Nicholson of Lynn, Edward of Winthrop, Joseph of Lynn and the late Rita Kamholz, William and James and is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

His Funeral will be held from the Paul Buonfiglio & Sons – Bruno Funeral Home, 128 Revere St., Revere on Wednesday, at 9 a.m. followed by a Funeral Mass in St. Anthony’s Church at 10 a.m. Relatives and friends are kindly invited. Harold Gaff Jr.

Verizon employee

Harold J. Gaff Jr. of Revere died unexpectedly on May 21.

He was a graduate of Immaculate Conception School, Class of 1974, BC High, Class of 1978 and the University of Maine in Orono and was employed by Verizon for more than 25 years.

He was the husband of Sophia Marnoz Gaff of Lynn; cherished son of Jean (Snow) Gaff and her long time friend, Ralph Colarusso, both of Revere and the late Harold Gaff, Sr.; loving father of Harold III, Rachael and George Gaff, all of Lynn; dear brother of the late Lynn Ellen Gaff; grandfather of Jordan Gaff; adored nephew of Helen Zucco and her husband, Ernest, and Charles Schicher and his wife, Doreen, all of Chelsea, and Joseph Schlicher and his wife, Patricia, of Saugus.
