Mary Guarente

Lynn Resident

Mary D. (Breda) Guarente of Lynn died on January 11. She was 78 years old.

The wife of the late Richard E. Guarente, she was the mother of Richard L. of Newton, NH, Robert E. and his wife, Donna of Peabody, James P. and his wife, Lisa of Nashua, NH, and Patricia A. of Peabody; grandmother of Nicholas, Andrew, Trevor and Daniel; sister of Norma Gianferri and her husband, Tony of Stoneham, James Breda and his wife, Rosella of Lexington, and the late Bruno Breda, formerly of Woburn; she also leaves several nieces and nephews.

George Humphries, Jr.

Owned GH Electric in Somerville

George W. Humphries Jr. of Court Road, Winthrop died suddenly at the Beth Israel Deaconess Hospital in Boston on January 10. He was 70 years old.

Born in Ireland, the beloved son of the late Bridgit (Healey) and George W. Humphries Sr, he was a resident of Everett for many years before moving to Winthrop several years ago. Mr. Humphries was the proprietor of GH Electric in Somerville and did the majority of his work in the Boston area. He was a member of several drumlines including the Boston Crusaders, Holy Trinity and Our Lady of Lourdes. He was also a member of the Army Reserves.

He was the devoted husband of Linda (Casey) and the loving father of Kristine Humphries of Winthrop; the step father of Heidi Freda of Lynn; the dear brother of Patricia Cappucci of Medford and the brother in law of Peter Casey of Marshfield and Susan Dishong of Revere. He is also survived by his grandson, Jordan.

Funeral arrangements were by the Ernest P. Caggiano and Son-O’Maley Funeral Home, Winthrop. Burial was in Woodlawn Cemetery, Everett. Memorial donations may be made to the Susan G. Antonietta LaRosa

East Boston Resident

Antonietta (DiGirolamo) LaRosa of East Boston died on  January 9. She was in her 92nd year.

She was the beloved wife of the late Paolo LaRosa; loving mother of Angelo LaRosa and his wife, Carmela of Revere, Maria LaRosa and Antonino “Nino” LaRosa, both of East Boston, Franco “Frank” LaRosa and his wife, Linda of Lynn, and Giovanna Defeo and her husband, Giovanni of Revere and the late Baldassare “Billy” LaRosa and his wife, Rosanna of Revere; cherished grandmother of 15 and great grandmother of 23. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

Louisa ‘Herbie’ Lavery-Steele

Of Lynn, formerly of Revere

Louisa H. “Herbie” (Dame) Lavery-Steele of Lynn, formerly of (Beachmont) Revere, died on January 10. She was 85 years old.

She was the beloved wife of the late Charles F. Lavery; loving mother of Aileen Delano and her husband, Steve of Connecticut, Louisa Slaght and her husband, Rick of Colorado, Charles Lavery of Georgia, Ann Jewett and her husband, Rick of Cohasset, James Lavery and his wife, Sharon of Quincy and Michael Lavery and his wife, Christina of Franklin; cherished grandmother of 15 grandchildren and four great grandchildren; dear sister of Dr. Mary Aileen Dame and Prudy Dame, both of Medford and the late Edgar, Chester and Francis Dame. She was the sister in-law of Claire Dame of Revere and the late Ruth Dame and daughter of the late Edgar and Aileen Dame.

John C. Dow 

Lynn Resident

Mr. John C. Dow, age 65, of Lynn, died Friday morning in his home after a lengthy illness.  He was the beloved husband of Janice (Lepke) Dow.

Born in San Bernardino, CA, John was the son of the late Harlow E. and Virginia G. (Rollins) Dow.  He was a graduate of Lynn Classical High School Class of 1966.  He previously resided in Malden for 20 years before moving to Lynn 10 years ago.

John was a member of the Malden Lodge of Elks #965, the VFW Post 639 of Malden and the Italian-American Club of Malden.  In earlier years, he enjoyed drag-racing in Epping, NH.  In later years, his interests included golfing, gardening and vacations to New Hampshire and Bermuda.

In addition to his wife, he leaves his children, Michael Dow and his wife Jennifer of Baltimore, MD, Dawn Ostrowski of Baltimore, MD and Cheryl Benz and her husband Neal of Bryceville, FL.  He was the brother of Robert Dow and his wife Paula of Lynn, Bruce Dow and his wife Ann of Lady Lake, FL, Lorraine Young and her husband Bernie of Greenland, NH, Joanne Crenshaw and her husband Dan of Mobile, AL and Loretta Lawrence of Melbourne, FL.  Also survived by several nieces and nephews.  He was the father of the late John C. Dow, Jr. and was also predeceased by 2 grandchildren.
