We congratulate St. Mary’s head football coach Matt Durgin and his players on winning the Catholic Central League championship and wish the Spartans good luck in their playoff game Tuesday at Manning Field.
Matt Durgin has been an outstanding mentor to his current players and to those athletes he coached at Classical. He has instilled in his players the importance of dedication, teamwork, and sportsmanship. He is a goodwill ambassador for the sport of football, promoting the enjoyment of a game he has excelled at since his own days as a player at the University of Rhode Island and Classical.
It was heartwarming to hear that the three other Lynn football coaches, Peter Holey of English, Tim Phelps of Classical, and James Runner of Tech all called Matt Durgin to wish him luck in the playoffs.
You can expect a tremendous crowd to be on hand as St. Mary’s continues its amazing season with the hope of playing in the Super Bowl on Saturday.
Congratulations, Coach Durgin on a championship season but more importantly providing your players with a positive student-athlete experience and teaching lessons they will carry forth to their college years and beyond.
