Don Campbell and the Pride Hyundai of Lynn Team are raising funds for adult and pediatric patient care and cancer research at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute by participating in the 25th Anniversary of the Boston Marathon Jimmy Fund Walk presented by Hyundai.
“We’ve participated in the Walk for the past four years,” said Campbell, manager of the Pride Hyundai located at 777 Lynnway. “We put a team together and the dealership as a whole sponsors everything and then we have individuals who donate as well.”
Hyundai will contribute $25 for every first-time participant who registers in 2013, up to $25,000 in honor of the Walk’s 25th anniversary.
Campbell said he admires the work of the Jimmy Fund and its long-time connection with the Boston Red Sox.
“We love the Jimmy Fund and this event is something that we really enjoy doing,” said Campbell. “The staff is very enthusiastic about participating and they enjoy the Walk. It’s a lot of fun.”
Between 30 and 40 walkers from the Lynn dealership will participate in the Walk. Employees from other dealerships will join the Pride Hyundai of Lynn team in the Walk. Campbell’s daughters will be accompanying him on the Walk.
“So many of our families have been affected by cancer,” said Campbell. “When an event like this comes along and they can help, they want to get involved and make a difference.”
An expected 8,500 people will lace up their sneakers to raise money for cancer research. Whether walking for themselves, family and friends, neighbors, or coworkers, each walker shares a common purpose: to raise money in support of adult and pediatric patient care and cancer research at Dana-Farber.
“Hyundai’s continued support is a reason the Boston Marathon Jimmy Fund Walk is able to fulfill its mission to reduce the burden of cancer for patients and families worldwide,” says Ann Beach, director of the Boston Marathon Jimmy Fund Walk. “It is an honor to have a such a long standing partnership with a company that is as dedicated to conquering cancer as the Walk and its participants.”
