Darling and DeLuca Join Classical Coaching Staff

Lynn Classical girls basketball coach Tom Sawyer has announced that Jim Darling and Frank DeLuca have been named to the coaching staff for the 2013-14 season.

Darling will be the junior varsity coach while DeLuca will be the coach of the freshman team. Darling has coached previously at Keefe Tech and Lynn English. DeLuca is the head coach of the Lynn Classical girls volleyball team.

“We’re very excited to welcome the two coaches in to our program.” said sawyer. “They’re both really passionate about helping the student-athletes at Lynn Classical and I feel they’re going to be a great fit for the program.”

Sawyer said long-time junior varsity coach Dennis Baldini and freshman coach Cara Baldini have decided to step down from their assistant coaching positions.

“Dennis and Cara have been great assets to the program for many years,” said Sawyer. “They are going to be sorely missed.”

Dennis Baldini started coaching in 2004, serving as an assistant with Sawyer on coach Gene Constantino’s staff. Cara Baldini has been the freshman coach for five seasons.

Among the starting players on the 2004 Lady Rams’ team that went 20-0 in the regular season before falling to Andover in the North Sectional final was Dennis Baldini’s daughter, Mary Baldini.

LeeAnn Baldini, wife of Dennis Baldini, has served as the official scorer for Classical and is expected to return to that position.

Former Classical hoop standouts Helen Ridley and Irene Saranteas will also be assistant coaches this season. Former NEC All-Star and Classical alumna Ashley Donovan will not return to the coaching staff after serving as an assistant last season.
