Youth Build Recruiting Lynn Youth for Fall 2015

North Shore Community Development Coalition’s YouthBuild program is currently enrolling participants for job training and educational classes for their fall cohort. YouthBuild North Shore is presently enrolling youth from Salem, Lynn, and surrounding communities for the program until the start date of September 10, 2015.

YouthBuild North Shore is an education and job training opportunity for young adults between the ages of 16 and 24 who have either previously dropped out of conventional high school or read or write below the 9th grade level. At YouthBuild North Shore, participants will be able to earn their HiSet or High School Diploma, learn job skills in the construction industry, and and receive support services such as a weekly stipend and financial literacy training. YouthBuild North Shore partners with New Liberty Charter School, Salem High School, and Catholic Charities to graduate our members with either a diploma or Hi-Set (the new GED.) Construction training includes certification in CPR, OSHA, and a nationally recognized Pre-Apprenticeship Certificate.

The goal of YouthBuild North Shore is to help our members get a good job or enroll in further training or college level classes. Youth also learn real-life job skills by completing construction and community service projects in their communities, including building affordable housing. Members receive a stipend for their work, nationally recognized construction credentials, and a $1500 education award through AmeriCorps for post-secondary education or training once they complete 450 service hours in their community. By achieving academic and employment skills, the earning potential of our graduating members is significantly higher than prior to their enrollment. Moreover, the likelihood of success of YouthBuild graduates is 15% more likely than a young person with only a high school credential and 65% more likely than a young person without a high school credential!

The inception of YouthBuild North Shore has brought a much needed and long-sough after national youth program to operate and serve youth across the region. YouthBuild North Shore is the only YouthBuild in the region and the only new Massachusetts program to be approved in the last 7 years. It receives funding from the U.S. Department of Labor, AmeriCorps, and MA DESE.
