Malden Catholic recently celebrated the graduation of the Class of 2016 on Saturday, May 21, in the Doherty Gymnasium at Malden Catholic. The 139 diplomas were conferred by Headmaster Mr. Thomas J. Doherty III.
Members of the Malden Catholic Class of 2015 have received college scholarships with a four-year value of more than $18 million. Among the scholarships were 40 Presidential Scholarships, 38 Dean’s Scholarships, 6 Trustees’ Scholarships and 8 other full scholarships.
Reflecting on his past four years spent at Malden Catholic, valedictorian Edward Tan of Medford told the crowd, “We are blessed to be in a community that promotes the dignity and respects the diversity of its members. With such a broad membership, it is not uncommon for our opinions to be shaped by a new influx of ideas. However, what I find truly remarkable about our school community is that everyone’s opinions are respected.” Tan continued, “I can say that Malden Catholic has shown me the possibilities of my own actions if I put in the effort. I hope that you have also experienced this yourselves. I do hope that in the years to come, you will put that same energy you once dedicated to your school work, athletics, and extracurriculars, into your futures.” Valedictorian Edward Tan will attend Georgia Institute of Technology this fall and Salutatorian Colin Harvey of Lynn will attend Harvard University.
Graduation ceremonies began with an annual Baccalaureate Mass on Friday, May 20th, presided by Rev. Austin H. Fleming, pastor of Holy Family Parish in Concord, MA. The Call to Worship was offered by Student Council President, Cameron Zahner of Melrose who will go on to attend Tufts University.
