Jack Bartlett was selected to the Independent School League All-Star Second Team to cap off an excellent first season in the Buckingham Browne and Nichols ice hockey program.
A sophomore center on the Knights’ first line, Bartlett was his team’s leading scorer with 17 goals and 27 assists in 27 games. Bartlett played his previous two seasons in the St. Mary’s High School hockey program where he amassed 95 points (40 goals, 55 assists), was named twice to the Catholic Central League All-Star seasons, and received team Offensive Player and MVP Awards.
Bartlett was involved in one of the most exciting hockey games in North Shore state tournament history during his freshman season when the Spartans lost to eventual state champion Gloucester in double overtime.
Has he thought about coming back to St. Mary’s?
“At a few different points, Jackie did consider returning to St. Mary’s,” said his father, Jackie Bartlett. “But he does like the school [BB&N]. He has a high-B average. The league is very competitive.”
Bartlett recently helped his state champion District 10 Bulldogs team finish fourth in a national 18-under tournament in Buffalo. Bartlett performed very well against some of the top college prospects in the country.
Bartlett is currently the starting second baseman for the BB&N varsity baseball team. During the summer, he will attend college hockey showcase events and participate in the Hockey Night in Boston Tournament. He would like to play college hockey and he has received some correspondences from Division 1 programs.
COREY BARTLETT
It was also a productive winter on the ice for Jackie’s younger brother, Corey, a sophomore winger for the St. Mary’s High School boys team under the direction of head coach Mark Lee. Corey had a breakout season with 13 goals and 9 assists for the Spartans who qualified for the Division 1 state tournament.
Bartlett scored two goals in the Spartans’ tough overtime loss to Westford Academy in the tournament. Westford went on to advance to the Division 1 state finals. He received the Most Improved Player Award at the team’s breakup banquet.
In addition to his hockey playing exploits, Corey is doing some boxing at a Peabody gym.
“I don’t think he’s going to pursue boxing, but he likes it and it gets him in good shape for hockey,” said his father, Jackie.
Corey will play in the Hockey Night in Boston Tournament this summer and participate in off-ice training, skill sessions, and other elite tournaments.
CHELSEY BARTLETT
Chelsey Bartlett, an eighth-grader, is also carrying on the high-powered hockey tradition started by her older brothers. Bartlett played this winter for the Lady Bulldogs varsity hockey team that consisted of players from Lynn English, Lynn Classical, Winthrop, and Revere. Middle school players are also eligible for the team.
Chelsey had four goals and eight assists for the Bulldogs and showed that she’ll be a player to watch as she continues career in the St. Mary’s High School girls hockey program next season.
And like her brothers, Chelsey has not limited her athletic talents to the rink. Chelsey is the starting catcher and cleanup batter for an AAU Junior Olympic softball team that plays out of Strike One in Danvers. She is also a top player in the Lynn Babe Ruth 14-Under softball program and participates in catching and hitting workouts under the tutelage of former Harvard baseball and football player Mike Giardi at the Hit Zone in Swampscott. |
