Lynn curfew works

Ordinances generally don’t work as effectively as the curfew ordinance in this city.

Passed in 1994, the curfew restricts those 18 and under from being out on the street between midnight and 6 a.m.

The curfew is enforced therefore it is real – and not simply an ordinance that means well but is not enforced.

Frankly, we are amazed at the relatively small number of those under the ages of 18 who have been taken off the streets by Lynn Police since January.

According to the police, that number is 29 – an amazingly small number of infractions considering this is a city of nearly 100,000 residents.

We urge the police to keep up the good work – and for those 18 to remain where they ought to be after midnight – which is at home.
