Local Baseball Community Honors Former Captain Edward Krause

Steve Krause, sports editor at the Daily Item, threw out the ceremonial first pitch at the Saugus High School Alumni Baseball Game Saturday.

Steve Krause, sports editor of the Daily Item, threw out one of the ceremonial first pitches in memory of his father Edward Krause at the Saugus Alumni Baseball Game Saturday at World Series Park.

Edward Krause, a Saugus High School Class of 1938 graduate, was the captain of the 1937 and 1938 Sachem baseball teams.

Steve Krause addressed the crowd before accepting the honor on behalf of his family.

“My dad was not one to talk about himself very much but I know he would be supporting this game – he loved this and would be here if he could,” said Krause.

Krause also praised Saugus baseball officials for building World Series Park and bringing “a beautiful facility” to the town.

Mike Carista, a Class of 1985 graduate who pitched in the Boston Red Sox farm system, also threw out a first ball.

Saugus officials intend to make the alumni game an annual event.
