A large crowd attended a campaign fundraiser for Buzzy Barton, candidate for Lynn city councilor-at-large, Thursday night at Franco-American Hall.
Barton, making his first bid for office, topped a field of ten candidates in the preliminary election. Eight candidates advanced to the November 8 final election, vying for four seats.
Robert Mullins introduced Barton at the campaign reception, saying, “I’d like to thank everybody for coming this evening. It’s a great turnout and a good tribute to Buzzy. We really thank everybody for their participation. There’s been a lot of work but we have a lot of work in front of us.”
Barton received a warm and enthusiastic ovation from his supporters.
“First of all I want to thank everyone for coming,” said Barton. “We did a great job in the primary. We topped the ticket and it was a great feeling. There are only 33 days left to the finals. Come to my headquarters and give me some time. I plan on knocking on a lot of doors passing out leaflets but I can’t do it alone. I need help. Thank you again. Have a good time tonight and get ready to work tomorrow.”

This must be the 4th time that the Lynn Journal has highlighted Buzzy Barton without even mentioning his strengths or reasons he would be a good councilor for Lynn. Why aren't all the candidates - both School Committee and Councilor being interviewed and discussed? All the candidates had fundraisers and great turnouts throughout the political season with Rick Starbard and Paul Crowley having a time this week.
The councilor debate at Ford School on 10/24 will be an excellent time to hear what each candidate has to bring to the city and enable voters to evaluate the best 4 councilor at large choices. The School Committee candidates will be debating next Monday at the Ford School. I would hope the goal of the Lynn Journal is to help people make intelligent choices that are in the best interest of all Lynn.
