Herb Reed

Founder of The Platters

Family and friends are invited to attend a visitation on Saturday, June 26 beginning at 10 a.m. at the Regent Theater, 7 Medford St., Arlington Center for Herb (Herbert A. Reed) international entertainer and founder of Herb Reed’s Platters who died on Monday, June 4 at Kaplan Family Hospice of Danvers following a long period of declining health. He was 83 years old.

He was the beloved father of Herbert A. Reed, Jr. of Arizona; grandfather of Amir and Blair Reed, also of Arizona; brother of the late: Gracie Mamie Reed, Leon, Gene and Julius Reed and Caroline Viola Reed. He is also lovingly survived by his extended musical family: Billie Cox of Lynn, Wayne Miller of Everett, Angela Allen of Randolph, Efrain “Frank” Pizarro of New York City, Frderick J. Balboni, Jr. and family of West Peabody, Michael Larson of Hyde Park and Dan and Lori Norris of Salem, NH. Herb also leaves a large extended biological family of nieces, nephews, grand nieces, grand nephews and cousins in Kansas City, Missouri.

His Funeral Service will follow at the Regent Theater at 11 a.m. Burial will be at Puritan Lawn Memorial Cemetery, West Peabody. In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to: Mass. John D. Burrows

Lynn Native

Mr. John D. Burrows, age 81, of Lynn, died Friday morning in the Kaplan Family Hospice House after a brief illness.  He was the beloved husband of Ruth A. (Cosgrove) Burrows, with whom he shared 58 years of marriage.

Born in Lynn, John was the son of the late George and Lillie Burrows.  He attended Lynn Schools and was a graduate of Lynn Trade School Class of 1950.  He was a lifelong resident of Lynn.

John enlisted in the United States Marine Corps and proudly served his country during the Korean Conflict.  He was honorably discharged as a Corporal in May of 1954.

Prior to his retirement, John was employed as a Precision Grinder for Raytheon, a position he held for over 37 years.  He had previously worked at the General Electric.

For over 55 years, John was a member of the American Legion Post #291 and later Post #6.  He was a member of the Gannon Golf Club and greatly enjoyed golfing and coin collecting.

In addition to his wife, he leaves his 3 children, Philip D. Burrows and his wife June of Pelham, NH, Richard A. Burrows and Lauren Kaufman of Swampscott and Diane M. Lincoln and her husband Brian of Lynn.  He was the Grandfather of Peter, Broderick, Ben and Brianna Lincoln and Elizabeth, Michael and Thomas Burrows.  He was the Great-Grandfather of Liam Burrows and Quinn Lincoln and is also survived by many nieces and nephews.  He was the brother of the late William O. and George R. Burrows.

William Murphy

Malden Resident

William P. Murphy of Malden died on June 13.

He was the devoted husband of Judith (Nickerson); beloved father of William Murphy of Lynn, Kellie Murphy and her husband, Kenneth Kelly, Jr. of Chelsea and the late Leanne Murphy; dear son-in-law of Ruth Nickerson of Malden and cherished grandfather of Nicole Errico of Malden.

Family and friends are kindly invited to attend a Funeral Service in the Carroll Funeral Home, 721 Salem Street, (Maplewood Square) Malden today, Tuesday, June 19 at 10 a.m. Services will conclude with burial at Puritan Lawn Memorial Park, West Peabody. www.carrollfh.com

Louise D. Williams

Mrs. Louise D. (Rockdale) Williams, 82, of Peabody formerly of Lynn, went home to be with the Lord on Saturday afternoon in a local nursing home after a lengthy illness.  She was the beloved wife of the late Harold H. Williams.

Born in Lynn, Louise was the daughter of the late Howard and Dorrell (Southwick) Rockdale and stepdaughter of the late Ruth (Olsen) Rockdale.  She attended Lynn Public Schools and was a graduate of Lynn Classical High School.  She lived in Lynn for most of her life before moving to Peabody 9 years ago.

Prior to her retirement, she spent over 35 years as an Office Manager for the Office of Dr. Berman.  She was a member of the Austin Square Baptist Church of Lynn and the Grace Chapel in Lexington.  She was also a member of the Birthday Ladies Group of Austin Square.  She was a very loving mother and grandmother.

She leaves her children, Mark Williams and Linnea Whalen and her husband Daniel all of Lynn.  She was the Grandmother of Danielle Roberts and Amber Roma.  Sister of Howard Rockdale, Jr. of Newport Ritchie, FL and Judith Nelson of Spring Hill, FL.  Also survived by many nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews.

Louise’s Funeral Service will be held in the CUFFE-MCGINN FUNERAL HOME, 157 Maple St. Lynn on Thursday at 10:00AM.  Relatives and friends invited.  Burial will be private.  Visiting Hours Wednesday 4-8PM.  Gifts in her memory may be sent to the Alzheimer’s Association, 311 Arsenal St. Watertown, MA 02472.  For online memorial and guestbook, please visit www.cuffemcginn.com
