Diamonds in the Rough: Caterer Considers New Name for Gannon Restaurant

Kim Diamond and Thomas “Buzzy” Diamond, owners of the catering service at the Gannon Golf Course, said they are considering naming the facility’s restaurant, Diamonds In The Rough Restaurant.

“We think the new name sounds pretty good,” said Kim Diamond.

The restaurant was previously known as Rolly’s Tavern on the Green. Rolly’s Tavern in Wyoma Square was the previous food service provider at Gannon.

Diamond’s owners also announced that they will rename the snack shack located next to the 18th hole, “Buzzy’s Snack Shack.”

The Diamond family, which has been in food operations for 30 years, will cater all the functions at the golf course in addition to running the restaurant and the snack shack.

Diamond’s previously provided the food service operations at the Olde Salem Greens golf course. The business has also catered local sports banquets and at the Marblehead Yacht Club.

“We’ve started to make some changes [at Gannon],” said Kim Diamond. “We’re doing the room over and giving it new curtains. It’s a little dated so we’re changing the décor. We’re trying to build up the morale and see what the members want. It’s the members’ club and that’s whom we want to satisfy.”

“We want to see what type of style our customers are interested in,” said Buzzy Diamond. “We’ll see if they’re into the upscale look or keeping it simple.”

Kim Diamond said Gannon guests can expect to see barbecues, clambakes, and rotisserie dinners at the club. “Buzzy specializes in prime rib and rotisserie so we’ll have some great dinner events at Gannon,” she added.

Kim Diamond said she will be on site at Gannon in a supervisory capacity. The Diamonds’ daughter, Helena, and other members of the family will also assist at the restaurant.

The restaurant menu currently features American cuisine including hamburgers, hot dogs, sausage pepper and onions, chili, nachos, and chicken fingers.

“We’ll definitely add steak tips and mixed grille to the menu for the season,” said Buzzy Diamond.

The Diamonds are looking forward to working with Chris Carter and Steve Murphy, co-owners of Golf Facilities Management Inc., and Gannon golf head professional Dave Sibley.

“Chris grew up right down the street from us,” said Kim Diamond.

“We’re going to work as a team with them,” said Buzzy Diamond.

Carter officially welcomed the Diamonds to their new positions during a press conference Monday at Gannon.

“We’re very excited to have the Diamonds on board,” said Carter. “With their outstanding reputation in the city of Lynn, I think they’re going to do a fantastic job.”
