LEO Urges Residents to Seek Fuel Assistance

A brutal winter to this point and the sense that winter cold will linger for at least a few more weeks has Lynn Economic Opportunity Inc. (LEO) home heating assistance program urging local residents to register now for home heating assistance.

“LEO urges residents to plan ahead for the rest of the winter season and apply for fuel assistance now,” read a statement from the LEO low-income home energy assistance program (LIHEAP).

LEO provides qualified applicants with up to $1,280 in heating oil assistance or up to $525 in natural gas or electric heating assistance.

Under LEO guidelines, individuals with incomes up to $32,000 per year can apply for heating help and families of four with a total household income of up to $61,700 are also eligible. For complete income eligibility guidelines, please visit www.leoinc.org.

According to the agency, so far this year they have already provided assistance for nearly 3,300 people from Lynn and surrounding communities and they expect to offer assistance for up to 4,345 by the program’s deadline of April 30.

LEO also urges residents who have already expended all of their benefits through the program to reach out to their local churches.

“The Society of St. Vincent DePaul has been a great source of assistance for those who have already exhausted their benefit,” said the statement from LEO.
