We had the honor to be invited by the new management team at the Gannon Golf Course for their opening day ceremony and we must say we were very impressed by the new leadership team who is carrying on the fine tradition and high standards of excellence set forth by long-time golf professional Mike Foster.
The new team at Gannon includes former Lynn resident Chris Carter, who has done such an outstanding job as the PGA Professional at Hillview Golf Course in North Reading and has received statewide awards for his contributions to the game of golf; David Sibley, an accomplished player and highly regarded, certified PGA Professional who has played on courses all over the world and brings new energy to the club; and Steve Murphy, the long-time course superintendent who has done so much to maintain the Gannon golf course’s status as a Lynn treasure, one that players come far and wide to play on each season.
The course, despite a number of snowstorms this winter, looks to be in excellent shape. The familiar surroundings that make Gannon such a welcoming and comfortable place to visit are all there: the indoor restaurant led by Kim Diamond, the outdoor dining area overlooking the putting green and 18th hole; and the food shack that serves hot dogs and other refreshments.
The Larry Gannon Municipal Golf Course, as it is officially known, has been a gem in this city for many years. So many Lynn families have enjoyed the hospitality of the Gannon staff and participated in many happy occasions at the club.
We wish David Sibley the best of luck as a new era in Lynn golf begins. We’re confident that Mr. Sibley and his staff will take the club to even greater heights as the sport of golf continues to grow and flourish in Lynn and the North Shore.
