The Lynn Breakers Girls Soccer Team won the U-18 Essex County Soccer Championship this weekend.
The Breakers headed into the tournament as the top seed based upon their undefeated regular season and played with passion and intensity all weekend.
The Breakers played the Lynnfield Lady Pioneers in the semi-final game and won 5-2. It was a physical, intense game with the referee calling multiple penalties throughout the match as players on both teams were aggressive and feisty. The Breakers ultimately took control of the contest on the strength of two goals each by Franki Galeazzi and Meghan Phelan as well as a beautiful blast from Krista Cuozzo from 25 yards out that found the back of the net In the finals, the Breakers won the tournament 1-0 on a corner kick by Galeazzi that slipped through the keeper’s hands in the first half. The Breakers, changing their formations, strategies and game plan in the second half to a more defensive approach, prevented their opponent from landing any shots on keeper Jillian Strileckis. “It was a tough game because of the heat but we were very happy to pull out a victory” said striker Veronica Uk. The Breakers will now represent both Lynn and Essex County in the State Tournament (Mass. Tournament of Champions- MTOC) next weekend in Lancaster, Ma.
