Get Out and Vote Tuesday

The campaigns are winding down and Lynn voters will have their say on Primary Election Day on Tuesday, Sept. 9.

Two races have captured the attention of the Lynn community, especially so over the past few weeks. The race for state representative for the West Lynn/Nahant seat previously held by Steve Walsh has been an exciting one with three Lynn candidates, School Committee member Charlie Gallo, Councilor-at-Large Brendan Crighton, and community activist Aikaterini Koudanis contending for the position.

The three candidates are set to face off in a Friday morning debate hosted by the Lynn Area Chamber of Commerce and moderated by Item business editor Sean Leonard.

The other race that has attracted significant interest in Lynn and throughout the region is the Sixth Congressional District Democratic primary. Congressman John Tierney is being challenged by four candidates, Seth Moulton, Marisa DeFranco, John Devine, and John Gutta. Tierney has served as Lynn’s congressman for the past 16 years. The winner of the Democratic primary will face off against former state senator Richard Tisei in November. Tisei is unopposed in the Republican primary.

We hope that Lynn residents will participate in the democratic process Tuesday and cast their ballots for the candidates whom they feel will best represent our city.

The races for the statewide offices, notably the governor, lieutenant governor, attorney general, and treasurer primaries on the Democratic side will also bring out the vote in Lynn.
