Richard Baetzel

Past State and Post Commander PLAV and Veteran of the Year 1990; Retired Gas Contractor Foreman

 Richard E. Baetzel of Lynn died suddenly at Salem Hospital on August 29. He was 80 years old.

Born in Phoenixville, PA, the son of the late Harold and Mary (Czukiewski) Baetzel and beloved husband of Mary (McCarthy) Baetzel with whom he shared 58 years of marriage, Mr. Baetzel was an honorable discharged veteran who served in the US Navy during the Korean War. He was employed as a foreman gas contractor for the R.J. Devereaux Company Inc. for 40 years retiring 10 years ago.

Dick was a member of the Polish Legion of American Veterans Post 56, past state and post commander and was awarded Veteran of the Year in 1990 and held the office of Treasurer in the State Department for many years. He was a member of Polish American Veterans Post 13 of Chelsea and in 1995 he was awarded the Haller Swords Metal by the Polish Army Veterans Post 37 of South Boston. He was also a member of St. Michael’s Polish National Lodge 630 and their bowling league.

In addition to his wife, Mary, Dick is survived by his sons: Richard J. and his wife, Rosetta, Daniel E. and his wife, Diane, all of Lynn, Ronald E. and his wife, Teeann of Peabody; his daughters Nadine M. Heaphy and her husband, James, Valerie A. Slepoy and her husband, Mark, all of Lynn, and Loralyn Larffarello and her husband, Frank of Wilmington. He was the beloved grandfather of 15 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. He also leaves his brother Robert Baetzel of Douglasville, PA and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brothers Raymond and Ronald Baetzel.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend his funeral from the Nadworny Funeral Home, 798 Western Ave., Lynn today, Thursday, at 9:30 a.m. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in Sacred Heart Church at 10:30 a.m. Interment will be in the Korean Lot at Pine Grove Cemetery, Boston Street, Lynn. Edmond Garbick

GE Retiree

Edmond Garbick of Beverly died at home after a long illness on September 2 surrounded by his loving family. He was 93 years old.

Born in Saugus, he was the son of the late Joseph and Blanche (Samardak) Garbik and the husband of the late Betty (Clish) Garbick. Mr. Garbick was an honorably discharged veteran having served in the US Army during World War II, where he received the European African Middle Eastern Theater Campaign Ribbon and the Distinguished Unit Badge.

Before his retirement he was employed as a tool and die maker in the Turbine Division in the General Electric Company for 45 years. Edmond was an avid outdoorsman, fisherman and hunter. He was a devoted father and grandfather.

He is survived by one son, Gregory E. and his wife, Gini of Beverly and a daughter, Sherry L. Bertochi and her husband, Paul of Tyngsboro and two grandchildren, Christine and Michael Bertochi. He was predeceased by his brother, Walter J. Garbik and his sister, Olga Boudreau.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend his funeral service from the Nadworny Funeral Home 798 Western Ave., Lynn on Friday at 10 a.m. Cremation to follow. Visiting hours are today, Thursday, from 3:30 to 7 p.m. Burial will be at a later date.
