Mary Donahue

Mass General Hospital Retiree; Listening Place and Franciscan Community Volunteer

Mary A. Donahue, a 40-year resident of Lynn, passed away October 1 after a brief illness at Salem Hospital. She was 77 years old.

Born in Cincinnati, Ohio,  was the daughter of the late John P. and Mary Ellen (Giessen) Donahue, she was a graduate of the Robert E. Lee High School in Jacksonville, Fl., and entered the Religious Order Convent before deciding to move on to the Massachusetts General Hospital Accounting Department for 25 years.

Her interests consisted of Bingo with her friends, her favorite places to play was at St. Mary’s and St. Michael’s Hall. She loved her dear dogs, Ying and Yang and all God’s creatures. She volunteered her services upon retirement at the Listening Place of Lynn and the Franciscan Community of Lynn.

Mary was a spiritual person attending Holy Family Church.  One of her greatest joys was dancing at fund raising events and Holy Family dinner functions. She loved her family and spoke with a beautiful smile when reflecting about her sisters, their off-springs and the generations that followed. Mary would want her friends to know how grateful she was for the love and kindness expressed to her in good times and bad times.

She is survived by two sisters, Kathleen Higginbottom and Dorothy D. Jones, both of Jacksonville, Fl., and several nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews. She was the sister of the late John P. and Timothy R. Donahue.

The family and caregivers express their gratitude given by the Lynn VNA, staff of Salem Hospital, care given by Mrs. Eva Almeida, and the concerns of the Listening Place Staff, Franciscan Community and her friends.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend the Memorial Mass of Christian Burial in Holy Family Church on Saturday, October 11 at 10 a.m. Interment will be in Florida. Jean Steadman

Star Market Retiree

Jean L. Steadman of Lynn died at the Abbott House Nursing Home on October 2. She was 84 years old.

Born in Lynn, the daughter of the late James and Madeline (Maillett) Steadman, she was raised and educated in Lynn and was a graduate of the Lynn School System. She was employed by the Star Market Company as a meat wrapper retiring in 2003 after 20 years of employment. Jean was an avid bowler, a member of the Highland Association and enjoyed spending time with her family.

She is survived by her son, Jeff L. Steadman and his wife, Lyn of Lynn; her grandchildren, Julianne Holmes and her husband, John of Derry, NH, Dominic Steadman and his fiancee, Jennifer Bates of North Reading, her great grandchildren, Jeffrey and Jaylee Homes and several nieces and nephews.
