Jozef Soroka

Retired owner of Jozef Soroka Tailor Shop of Hamilton and Wenham

Jozef Soroka of Lynn died at home on March 1 surrounded by his loving family. He was 79 years old.

Born and educated in Poland, the son of the late Florian and Stanislawa (Jakobiec) Soroka and the husband of Janina (Kopach) Soroka with whom he shared 59 years of marriage, he came from Poland in 1972 and worked as a tailor in Jordan March and Kennedy’s Mens Apparel Stores. He became the owner/operator of the Jozef Soroka Tailor Shop in Hamilton and Wenham for 25 years until retiring five years ago. He was a former communicant of St. Michael Parish until its closing.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by one son, Val Soroka and his wife, Pamela, of Hamilton and the beloved grandfather of Aleander and Kyle Soroka, brother of Henryk Soroka of Florida, Waclaw Soroka and his wife, Franciszka of Lynn and Maria Soroka of Florida. He was the brother of the late Antoni Soroka and he also leaves several nieces and nephews.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend his funeral from the Nadworny Funeral Home, 798 Western Avenue, Lynn on Friday at 9:30 a.m. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Mary’s Church at 10:30 a.m. Interment will be in St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Broadway, Lynn. Lucien ‘Lou’ Roy

Lynn School Department retiree

Lucien A. “Lou” Roy of Newmarket, NH, formerly of Lynn, died February 24 at the Exeter Hospital surrounded by his family after a brief illness. He was 84 years old.

Born in Lynn, the son of the late Lucien A. Roy and Marie M. (Fratus) Roy, he was the beloved husband of Lois A. (Grass) Roy with whom he shared 33 years of marriage. He was a graduate of Lynn Classical High School, Class of 1949, where he played football as a quarterback. After graduating, he joined the U.S. Air Force, was stationed in Germany and played football for the Air Force. Upon discharge from the Air Force, he went to work for the Lynn School Department as a painter/glazer, retiring after 38 year of service as a supervisor. He was a member of the American Legion Post 67 of Newmarket, NH.

In addition to his wife, Lois, he is survived by Annette Roy-Nims and her husband, Rick, Joanne Cier and her husband, Gary, both of Florida, Steven Roy and his wife, Janet of Connecticut and his stepchildren: Jacqui Finn of Amesbury, Stephen Dixon and his wife, Lisa of Lynn, Vicki Beaupre of Lee, NH and Brenda Dixon of Newmarket, NH. He was the beloved grandfather of 12 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren; the brother of Lorraine LaFleur and her husband, Robert of York, ME and Barbara Nadworny and her husband, Richard of Lynn and the late Richard Roy. He also leaves several nieces and nephews.

Richard Penta

‘Revere City Councillor’

Richard A. “Revere City Councillor” Penta of Beachmont died on February 25.

He was the beloved husband of Cynthia (Adreani); devoted father of Richard B. and his wife, Nicole of W. Peabody, Steven, Mario, Jessica Penta and her wife, Jennifer, and Louis Penta all of Revere; loving son of Mary (Rice) and the late Benjamin; dear brother of Barbara Kelly of Lynn, Benjamin of Saugus, Paul of Revere, Patricia Fields of Lynn and the late Edward and is also survived by his loving granddaughter, Emily Claire and by many nieces and nephews.
