Annual ‘History and Hops’ at Lynn Museum

Local beer aficionados and history buffs will rub elbows this Friday night at the Lynn Museum, during the 6th Annual History and Hops event.

“History and Hops” will be held Friday, Sept. 18 from 7 to 10 p.m. at the museum located at 590 Washington St.

According to Executive Director Drew Russo of the Lynn Museum, about 15 different beers will be featured. Among the better known breweries participating beers, there will be beers from Samuel Adams, Percival Brewing and Newburyport Brewing. Lynn’s new brewery, Bent Water Brewing Co., will also have representatives at the museum, but Russo said the new company won’t be sampling its beer.

Beer tasting is included in the price, with tickets for museum members going for $15 and non-members paying $20 each. Russo noted there will also be a cash bar for those who want more than just a sample portion of beer and wine will also be available at the bar.

Appetizers and snacks will be paired with the beer sampling and the food will be provided courtesy of Old Neighborhood Foods and Stop & Shop.

Music will be played throughout the event featuring DJ Seth Albaum, Marcella Original and headlining the evening will be The Strungout Playboys, featuring Lynn musician Tony Gallo.

Britt Bowen, collections specialist at the museum, is working on putting together a “History and Hops” themed pop-up exhibit that people attending the beer sampling can view inside when they want to take a break from the outdoor activity. Bowen said the exhibit will include small photos of beer and alcohol-related items. She said it will also include items such as old decanters and whiskey bottles.

Russo added that the exhibit is part of an effort to include an indoor component to the annual event, since in the past ‘History and Hops” was only outdoors. Past attendance has typically averaged more than 100 people.

Runners participating in the town’s Clock to the Rock 5K the night before the museum’s beer sampling can bring in their bib and get $5 off the ticket price.

All proceeds from the event will benefit the Lynn Museum and arts organization. Tickets are available on www.lynnmuseum.org.
