By Cary Shuman

Lynn resident Michael Marks announced his candidacy for Sheriff of Essex County at a campaign kickoff event May 4 at the Knights of Columbus Hall.

Marks told the capacity crowd that he has dedicated the last 28 years of his life working in the Essex County Sheriff’s Department. He is currently the superintendent of the department. His father, Terry Marks, is a former correctional officer in the department, having begun his service in 1964.

Dr. Michael W. Frost, assistant superintendent of the Essex County County Correctional Facility and Sheriff’s Department, introduced Marks.

“I have been in law enforcement for 35 years and during those 35 years I’ve served 12 police chiefs, four sheriffs, and one superintendent. I have had opportunities to learn leadership from some of the best. I can tell you without any reservation that the person that I’ve worked with that has more character and more integrity and is the right person for this position is Michael Marks.”
