Gannon Municipal Golf Course Head Professional David Sibley is ready to welcome golfers to the first tournament of the season this weekend at the Lynn course.

The kickoff tournament begins a busy schedule of a dozen events, highlighted by the oldest running tournament, the Club Championships, that crowns the top male and female golfer of the year.

Sibley is beginning his fourth year as the leader of one of the area’s most popular public golf courses. The first day of golf this season was March 31, moved from the original date of March 15.

“The spring weather hasn’t been too kind to us but as the weather turns nice, people will start coming out to the course,” said Sibley.

The head pro announced the appointment of Patrick Manning as the new golf course superintendent. Former superintendent Steve Murphy is in a new administrative role in the company (Golf Facilities Management) that also oversees Hillview in North Reading and Beverly Golf and Tennis. Kim Diamond will again supervise catering services at Diamond’s in the Rough.

The course is open to the public seven days a week. The popular junior golf clinic will begin Monday, July 3.
