A large crowd of supporters attended a campaign reception for Rep. Donald Wong Monday, Sept. 28 at Kowloon.
Rep. Wong is a candidate for re-election in the Ninth Essex District that includes Lynn Ward 1, Precincts 1 and 2, along with most of Saugus, and parts of Wakefield.
Rep. Brad Jones, the House Minority Leader who is retiring after 33 years in state government, said, “I’m thrilled that one of those people that I got to meet along the way when he was a selectman, when he was running for state representative was Donald Wong. He is quite frankly, a wonderful friend. He’s the guy you stand with because he always stands with you, to try to help you out, to try to serve you, to be an advocate, whether you’re a senior citizen, whether you’re a youngster, whether you’re a veteran.”
Wong thanked the people in attendance “for being here tonight and taking the time to come together with friends, neighbors, and supporters from across the Ninth Essex District. I’m proud to represent the communities of Lynn, Saugus, and Wakefield and I’m grateful for the opportunity to serve the people of this district. For me, public service has always been about one thing: working for the people I represent.”
Wong said that “one of the priorities that has been important to me is our veterans, the men and women who have served our country and made sacrifices on behalf of all of us. They deserve our respect, our gratitude and our continued attention when it comes to the benefits and services available to them.”
Wong said, I have had “the privilege of serving in the Mass. House of Representatives since 2011. I was on the Saugus Board of Selectman and a Saugus town meeting member. But titles and years of service are not what matters most. What mattered is showing up, and I certainly don’t take the responsibilities of representing for granted. For me, it isn’t part time. It isn’t something I do when it fits into my schedule. It is my job, and I am proud to say that I give 100 percent of my time to the Ninth Essex District.
“Tonight I simply want to say thank you. Thank you for being here. Thank you for being about Lynn, Saugus, and Wakefield. And thank you for being about the future of our communities. I am proud to serve, and I look forward to continuing the work,” concluded Wong.
