Lawrence ‘Buzzy’ Salvatore
Former Lynn and Swampscott Barber Shop Owner
Lawrence J. “Buzzy” Salvatore of Peabody, formerly of Revere, died October 21 at the Kaplan Family Hospice House in Danvers following a brief illness. He was 76 years old.
Born in Revere, he was the son of the late Pasquale and Mary (Paone) Salvatore and the devoted husband of Patricia (Chandler) Salvatore with whom he shared over 48 years of marriage. He was raised and educated in Revere and was a graduate of Revere High School. He has lived in Peabody for the past 46 years.
Buzzy” was a US Navy veteran of the Korean War was honorably discharged in 1955. After his military service, “Buzzy” became as barber and opened his shop in Lynn. He later moved his shop to Swampscott and among his most loyal customers were Johnny Pesky and Tony C.
He later worked alongside his wife at Pat’s Discount Store in Peabody Square for 20 years before finally retiring. He had eclectic taste in music. He enjoyed mixing music from all different styles and would make cassette tapes for his family and friends, ranging from old Christmas carols to modern day rock-n-roll.
In addition to his loving wife of 48 years, he is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Deborah and Timothy Gould of Peabody and Laurie and Brett Zimmerman of Groveland; a brother, Robert Salvatore and his wife, Edie of Peabody, three sisters and two brothers-in-law, Patricia and Sal DeSalvo of Belmont, Dolores and James Cohen of Melrose, and Joan Gavengano of Revere and is also survived by six grandchildren, three great grandchildren and by many nieces and nephews.
His funeral service will be held today, Tuesday, at 9 a.m. at the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 Lynn St., Peabody followed by his Funeral Mass at 10 a.m. at St. Adelaide’s Church, Peabody to which relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend. Visiting hours will be held on Monday from 4 to 8 p.m. Burial will be in Cedar Grove Cemetery, Peabody.
