Ward 7 City Councilor Jordan T. Avery is extending his heartfelt gratitude to the residents, neighbors, volunteers, sponsors, city departments, and community partners who helped make the first-ever Ward 7 Family Fun Day an overwhelming success.
Held at Barry Park, the event welcomed well over 700 attendees throughout the day and fulfilled its mission of bringing neighbors together in a fun, welcoming, and family-friendly environment.
“I couldn’t be more grateful,” said Councilor Avery. “This event was about one simple goal: bringing neighbors together. Looking across the park and seeing hundreds of families laughing, meeting one another, and enjoying everything the day had to offer reminded me exactly why community events like this matter.”
The day featured something for everyone, including carnival games, moon bounces, basketball activities, a dunk tank, face painting, music, food, and interactive demonstrations from local public safety officials. More than 700 hot dogs were served, along with over 300 soft-serve ice cream cones, creating countless smiles for children and families.
Councilor Avery offered special thanks to the Lynn Fire Department for its hands-on fire safety demonstration, allowing children to use a fire hose and learn about fire prevention in an engaging way. He also thanked the Lynn Police Department for spending time with neighborhood children, distributing stickers and novelty items, and strengthening the positive relationships between officers and the community.
He also recognized the Lynn Disability Network for ensuring children of all abilities had an opportunity to participate and enjoy the day’s activities.
Councilor Avery expressed his appreciation to the Lynn Department of Public Works, the Parks & Recreation Division, Associate Commissioner Lisa Nerich, for their outstanding coordination and support, including providing cornhole and other recreational games that families enjoyed throughout the day.
The success of the event would not have been possible without the dedication of the planning committee. Councilor Avery thanked Alan Day, Lashauna Vern, Matt Griffin, and Nastasia Shah for the countless hours they invested in planning and organizing the event. He also recognized the coaches and student-athletes from Lynn English High School Football and Lynn Classical High School Football for volunteering their time, along with his family, friends, and the many community volunteers who stepped up to help throughout the day.
Councilor Avery also expressed sincere appreciation to every sponsor and donor whose generosity made the event possible.
“Your support and belief in this event helped turn an idea into an incredible community celebration,” Avery said. “Because of your generosity, hundreds of children and families were able to enjoy a free day of fun, food, and fellowship.”
He also thanked Mayor Jared Nicholson, State Rep Sean Reid, his City Council colleagues, local elected officials, and community leaders who attended to show their support.
“As someone who was born and raised in Lynn, it means the world to me to give back to the community that gave me so much,” Avery added. “Serving as the Ward 7 City Councilor is truly an honor, and I am incredibly thankful to the residents for placing their trust in me.”
Councilor Avery emphasized that the Family Fun Day is just one part of his ongoing commitment to Ward 7.
“I will continue being present in our neighborhoods, holding community meetings, listening to residents, addressing concerns, and working every day to improve the quality of life in Ward 7. This event showed what’s possible when neighbors come together, and I look forward to building on that momentum.”
