A Wonderful Person: Community Fondly Remembers Jay Alicudo

Tributes have come from all corners of the city in remembrance of John Michael “Jay” Alicudo who died on Jan. 31 at the age of 54.

Jay Alicudo gained his fame as an outstanding athlete at Lynn Classical who went on to excel at Boston University. But while sports were important to him, he extended his reach and goodwill beyond the field to help others reach for their dreams while setting a good example.

We remember meeting Jay when his daughter, Justina, was performing in the Lynn Classical athletic program, notably on the basketball team that was coached by Gene Constantino, now the principal at Classical. Mr. Alicudo, who also has a son, Tyler, was so proud of Justina’s achievements not only on the field and on the court, but in the classroom and as a leader among her peers. Justina continued her academic success at Northeastern University and has emerged as a excellent teacher and rising young coach in Lynn – bringing even more pride to a father who had molded a daughter’s life in such a positive and loving manner.

Jay Alicudo waged a brave and public battle against his illness, displaying strength every step of the way. He stayed upbeat and positive to the end.

We echo the sentiments of all who knew Jay Alicudo when we say that he was a great person who will be missed.
