Mayor Judith Flanagan Kennedy will make a major announcement at a campaign event set for Wednesday at 7 p.m. at Franco-American Hall.
While the mayor will not confirm the nature of the announcement, it is expected that she will announce her candidacy for re-election at the event.
“I will have an announcement about my political future on Wednesday night and I encourage everybody to come,” the mayor told the Lynn Journal.
The event is being billed as “Committee to Elect Judith Flanagan Kennedy Presents: Re-Election Campaign Kickoff” so all signs point to the start of a campaign for the office she gained four years ago in a stunning victory over then-Mayor Edward Clancy Jr.
Political observers agree that Kennedy will be a formidable candidate in the election. It is expected that the mayor will speak about her numerous accomplishments in office and lay out a blueprint for the city that has moved in a positive direction during her tenure.
The mayor has been visible at events throughout the city while her administrative staff, including chief of staff Jamie Cerulli and aide Mary Fountain, has earned praise for its accessibility, professionalism, public relations, and effort to reach out to all constituencies.
Admission is free to the campaign kickoff event.
