The snowfall and high tide

The weekend snowfall was, obviously, magnificent. Whenever this old industrial city is turned perfectly white, there is always room for a sigh and a special look around us – for the snow changes the landscape and the atmosphere we live in whenever it happens.

Now to the high tide Friday and Saturday.

It was an incredibly high tide, as high a tide as we have seen in years along the coast in these parts.

The smashing waves, crashing into the seawall and their churning surf rising high and then breaking up and drowning the sidewalks, brought hundreds down to the shore.

Shore Drive was crowded with gawkers and those who went onto the sidewalks daring the waves to take them away, if you will.

It was a long holiday weekend, made better by Mother Nature.

The New Year was ushered in beautifully.
