The North Shore Tides, Lynn’s entry in the American Basketball Association, will begin its inaugural season Saturday (7 p.m.) at the Lynn Tech Fieldhouse.
Jake Canty, owner of the semi-professional team, said the Tides will play the New York City Jaguars in the opener and former Lynner Troy Brown will be coaching the team.
The roster includes former Lynn Tech star Antonio Anderson, who played at Memphis University and for the Oklahoma City Thunder in the NBA, and former Lynn English star Dwight Brewington, who played college basketball at Providence and Liberty University.
Other Lynn players on the roster are former Tech star Tony Gallo (Coppin State), Alvin Abreu (UNH), Josh Lundrigan, Keith Lee, and Roberto Vellon.
City Councilor Peter Capano will have the honor of conducting the ceremonial tapoff.
Local sportscaster John Hoffman will be the team’s play-by-play announcer. Russell Senk will be the analyst for the game that will be videotaped and broadcast on Lynn cable television. Carlo Caponigro will also be a part of the broadcast team.
Amanda Dwyer, former cheerleader at Lynn English, is the director of the North Shore Tides’ dance team that will be performing at games.
“We hope to see a lot of fans from Lynn at our first game,” said Canty. “I’m sure fans will enjoy the exciting brand of basketball that is played in the ABA.”
